Advantages of the Geo-HEP High-Performance Energy Pile

Large heat exchange surface area,
thermal load buffering, and flexible application—all in one system.

What Makes the Geo-HEP High-Performance Energy Pile Special

The Geo-HEP high-performance energy pile combines several thermal functions within a single system.

It can absorb heat, store it in its integrated thermal mass, and release it into the surrounding ground. At the same time, the Geo-HEP system can be used for passive cooling and as a heat source for a heat pump.

This distinguishes the system in key ways from traditional slim geothermal probes and conventional energy piles.

01

Large heat exchange surface area in a compact footprint

The large-volume design of the high-performance energy pile creates a large heat exchange surface between the Geo-HEP system and the surrounding ground. This allows thermal energy to be exchanged with the ground within a relatively compact footprint.

02

Integrated Thermal Mass and Load Buffering

Ideally, a high-performance energy pile contains approximately 43 m³ of water to serve as thermal storage mass. This water can absorb heat and buffer short-term thermal load peaks before the energy is transferred to the ground.

03

Passive cooling with low electrical energy consumption

Under the right conditions, excess heat can be transferred directly to the ground via the Geo-HEP system without requiring a conventional chiller to operate continuously. This principle can be particularly beneficial for applications with regular or continuous cooling needs.

04

Cooling and Heating Using the Same Infrastructure

In cooling mode, the Geo-HEP system absorbs excess heat and transfers it to the ground. In heating mode, the same geothermal infrastructure can be used as a heat source for a heat pump.

05

Closed-loop system with potential groundwater supplementation

The Geo-HEP system operates as a closed heat exchange system—groundwater is neither extracted nor incorporated into the system’s circuit. However, existing moving groundwater can aid in heat transfer underground and thus improve the thermal conditions at the site.

06

Flexible integration and easy maintenance access

Geo-HEP can be evaluated for both new construction projects and the retrofitting of existing heating and cooling systems. Technical components relevant to maintenance can be integrated into the overall system in an accessible manner and tailored to the existing plant equipment.

Evaluate Technical and Economic Benefits on a Project-by-Project Basis

The key question is not what standard value applies to every project, but how the Geo-HEP system can be tailored to the specific site and actual energy demand.

To this end, technical prerequisites, performance requirements, site conditions, and economic feasibility are considered together.
